A masterclass in Zen at Tate Modern
Elevate mind, body and soul with an experience at the Tate that fuses yoga, brunch and the latest Picasso blockbuster
Few yoga experiences can be as intriguing as one that combines classes, set within a London landmark, with Picasso and the promise of a leisurely brunch. Enter Tate Modern, which aims to elevate mind, body and soul over four Saturdays this summer from July 28 to August 18.
The Tate’s East Room, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows framing vistas of the Thames and St Paul’s Cathedral, is a fitting space for the hour-long yoga classes, which will be led by an expert Frame instructor – the studio’s simple mantra is “getting fit should never feel like a chore”, which is a good indication of the general yogic vibe. The 8.45am class is ideal for early risers, but for those who enjoy a lie-in on a Saturday, sun salutations also begin at 10am. Both classes (mats are provided) will focus on strength, mobility and relaxation and are suitable for all levels of yogis.
Once the group has cooled down post-stretching, brunch will served in the Tate’s Kitchen and Bar, beginning with a choice of a cherry limeade smoothie, a blueberry maple protein shake or a lemon, orange, fresh turmeric and ginger cleansing shot, followed by Kent raspberries with organic Bircher muesli. Guests can then enjoy one of four healthy dishes: quinoa salad with chai tofu and lemon dressing; crushed avocado, poached eggs and sourdough toast; Mediterranean citrus and fennel salad; or vegan pancakes, pomegranate and cashew cream. The yoga and brunch package is priced at £25 per person.
Once sated, the group also has the option of perusing the venue’s main attraction: the EY Exhibition: Picasso 1932 – Love, Fame, Tragedy (the yoga, brunch and Picasso package is priced at £41). Described as a “stellar show” by the FT, which has tipped it to be London’s top exhibition in 2018, the blockbuster display ends on Sunday September 9, and the experience offers an extra incentive to see world-class art before it winds down.
