Garrard supports breast cancer month
Sales of the jewellery house’s TwentyFour collection will help to raise funds for the breast cancer charity Future Dreams
Women are at the heart of the House of Garrard ethos. Its creative director Sara Prentice has brought a modern vibrancy to the brand and every piece of its TwentyFour collection – named after Garrard’s home at 24 Albemarle Street in London – is designed by and for women. Hence, this October (which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month) the jeweller will donate 15 per cent of the sale of each piece in the collection to the breast cancer charity Future Dreams.
TwentyFour takes its design inspiration from Queen Mary’s iconic Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, which was commissioned by her ladies-in-waiting as a wedding gift in 1893. Highlights include a pair of rose gold diamond-shaped drop earrings (£6,200), a rose gold ear climber (£9,800) and stacking eternity rings in gold (£4,000 per ring) – all 18ct with signature round diamonds.
For Prentice – who has experienced her own battle with breast cancer – the Future Dreams cause is one that is close to her heart. “The concept of TwentyFour just seems to encapsulate everything that the charity does so beautifully,” she says. “The idea that every day can be made better through its ongoing practical, empowering support, while fighting cancer and believing in women 24 hours a day.”
Future Dreams – which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary – has raised over £4.5m towards the funding of weekly support centres at the UCLH and Whittington Hospitals in London, with two more facilities opening in the next 18 months. It also plans to open Future Dreams House in central London when it has the necessary funding in place. The “first of its kind” centre will provide women and their families with support to address the psychological, emotional and physical side effects of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in comfortable surroundings away from the sterile hospital environment.
