Chef Angela Hartnett’s Café Murano opens in Bermondsey
Hartnett’s third Café Murano restaurant follows hot on the heels of haunts in London’s St James’s and Covent Garden.
Bermondsey’s culinary credentials are rubber-stamped with the latest newcomer to the London hotspot – Angela Hartnett’s third Café Murano restaurant opens on November 28, following recent moves into the neighbourhood by Omoide and 40 Maltby Street.
This will be chef Hartnett’s first venture south of the river. “We are excited to have found this site,” she says. “The area has an excellent food and drink offering with some great little spots on Bermondsey Street and in Borough Market.” Adam Jay – the former head chef of Café Murano St James’s – will lead the pass at the new venue, serving favourites such as starters of arancini with truffle and Parmesan (£3), and hearty dishes like hake and cuttlefish stew with tomato and basil (£17).
The main restaurant space is capacious enough for 110 guests, and is complemented by a chef’s table and a private dining room, while the bar area will serve a menu del giorno (from noon to 7pm) priced at £17 for two courses and £20 for three courses. Cocktails, meanwhile, include the Montenegro – a blend of Aperol, Amaro Montenegro, Bulleit Rye Whiskey and lemon (£9).
