Lalique’s new Paris jewellery store

Although many know the late René Lalique for his glassware, his first career was as a jeweller – and these are the treasures that have become more popular in recent years. “Our crystal pieces are enjoying immense success and recent collaborations – such as with Zaha Hadid – have taken us to another level,” says Anne Kazuro, Lalique’s international director of jewellery. So much so that on Thursday July 3 the company is opening the first Lalique boutique entirely dedicated to fine jewellery, in Paris, during Haute Couture week.

“We have chosen one of the most prestigious fine-jewellery locations in the world, Rue de la Paix, which is a stone’s throw from René Lalique’s original shop on Place Vendôme, where he showed his creations from 1905 to 1935,” Kazuro continues.

The style of the store is – naturally – art deco- and art nouveau-inspired, and extends over 80sq m and two floors. Hanging from the ceiling is a chandelier made up of 2,500 of the marque’s Gourmande rings, the piece designed by Lalique in 1931 – it has been created by the Pustetto Agency, along with the architecture and furniture. On the ground floor, 200 gems from the fine and high-jewellery collections will be displayed, alongside a selection of iconic house pieces, such as the aforementioned Gourmandering (€100) and the Mascottes cuff links (from €150). As well as wedding and engagement rings, 41 new items will be unveiled, among them the Soleil de Gaïa collection – including the blue, green and yellow sapphire Gaïa necklace (€135,000, second picture) and the gold paved with diamonds and pearls Sun of Gaïe ring (€30,000, first picture).

The lower-ground floor will feature a private salon inspired by the 1900 Paris World Fair, where art-nouveau style began to emerge. Limited-edition pieces such as Lalique-Parmigiani Fleurier table clocks and the Caran d’Acheline of pens will also be displayed.

“Our fine jewellery reconnects with our founder almost 110 years since the opening of his original shop,” concludes Kazuro. “And I guess when the clients keep asking for jewellery products, it must be the right moment to open a dedicated boutique.”
