A workout on ice
Mix up your workout routine with a refreshing new twist – a muscle-flexing fitness class on ice followed by a leisurely brunch
For a workout with an edge, head to Ice Rink Canary Wharf on February 2, where fitness studio Define London is hosting a class led by founder Ashley Verma, the former Broadway dancer and actress, followed by brunch at French restaurant Plateau.
Guests will not require ice-skating skills (or boots), as Verma begins the 50-minute Define Barre session on yoga mats, guiding them through a combination of postures, many inspired by ballet. The warm-up will be followed by a half-hour stretch class, where the party will position themselves on the ice, holding onto the side of the rink. This approach promises to increase muscle control and flexibility, while participants take in the striking scenery around the arena – think twinkling trees set aglow by fairy lights against the backdrop of Canada Square Park’s towering edifices. “The rationale is that the cold encourages enhanced endurance,” says Verma. “Guests will have to work harder to keep warm, thereby torching extra calories throughout the workout. It’s also extremely fun.”
Following the exertions at the rink, Verma will host a two-course brunch with a drink at the nearby Plateau restaurant. The event, including the class and meal, is priced £32 per person.
