Bodhimaya comes to Cowdray House
Chukkas make way for chakras as Bodhimaya founder Cornelius O’Shaughnessy guides guests through a week of therapies, meditation, movement and nutrition
If your new year health resolutions have fallen by the wayside, the Bodhimaya Wellness Intensive retreat hosted by Cowdray House, which sits within the grand estate that is home to the Polo Gold Cup, may be just the tonic to instil new resolve.
The experience (priced £2,695 per person for a six-night minimum stay), which runs from January 24 to 30, offers guests in-depth personal consultations, informing bespoke programmes targeting stress and burnout, weight management, gut repair and other issues, alongside nutrition talks and cookery demonstrations – with plenty of time between to enjoy a relaxing spa, treatment or walk in the countryside. “We start each day with an hour of both meditation and yoga followed by breakfast, then spa treatments such as craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and massage, or a morning swim in the indoor pool,” says meditation expert Cornelius O’Shaughnessy who founded the retreat.
Nutrigenomics plays a part in Bodhimaya’s holistic approach and guests can participate in a three-day juice and tea fast before tucking into healthy, balanced cuisine recommended for their individual needs, or opt for the wellness-led menus from the start of the experience.
If so desired, participants can also undergo a Bodhigen Biomarker Analysis (£2,795) for genetic testing, metabolic analysis and oxidative stress as well as more specific biomarkers such as adrenals (from £275) or depression indicators (from £300).
The groups are intimate with a maximum of 14 guests – who will each be accommodated in an en-suite room, recently refurbished by Lady Cowdray. The house is set in 110 acres of private gardens in the heart of West Sussex.
