The Ginger Pig launches an online shop with home delivery

Click and Chop Shop drops the butcher’s prime cuts to your doorstep

It was the purchase of Milly, Molly and Mandy, three Tamworth pigs, just over 20 years ago that prompted Tim Wilson to found ethical butcher The Ginger Pig. Today the antiques dealer owns eight butcher shops in the London area – and this week he ventures into online commerce with The Ginger Pig Chop Shop.

“It’s our first foray into home delivery, so to ensure that every cut reaches customers in the same tip-top condition you’d expect from buying in our shops, we’ve chosen to start fairly small,” explains Wilson. “We’ve selected a range of cuts that we truly love, taken from exceptional British livestock, much of which you’d struggle to find at the supermarket.” Classic Ginger Pig offerings include rare-breed, grass-fed beef prime rib (£29.70 for 1.1kg), aged for at least 28 days; neck-end lamb chops (£7.25 for two 250g chops); and the butcher’s legendary sausage rolls (£8 for two). It’s worth noting that the butchers at The Ginger Pig tend to be generous in their portion sizes, but they recommend allowing 250g to 300g per person off the bone or 500g on the bone. The website also stocks Ginger Pig cookbooks (£16.50) and vouchers.

Swapping the butcher’s bike of old for DPD, orders are sent to UK mainland addresses for a £10 charge, with next-day delivery if placed by 10am the day before they are required. The service is available Tuesday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. The meat is packed fresh with frozen ice packs and eco-friendly WoolCool insulated lining, which can be composted. Orders are currently being taken for Easter, when a Ginger Pig lamb crown roast (£33.50 for 1.3kg) would make a sumptuous centrepiece for Sunday lunch.
