London’s cracking twist on an Easter egg hunt
Modern Mexican restaurant Cantina Laredo hides eggs with a difference on Upper St Martin’s Lane
Easter egg hunt takes on a Mexican twist this year in London’s Covent Garden. Modern Mexican restaurant Cantina Laredo is hiding 101 cascarónes – hollow painted eggs filled with colourful confetti – on Upper St Martin’s Lane. Inside are prize tickets for edible and imbibable delights at the restaurant, including margaritas, any of The Great Eight Guacamoles made at the guacamole bar, or dinner worth £200. The hunt takes place from Monday March 26 to Monday April 2.
The idea originated from Mexico’s Easter tradition of cracking cascarónes over people’s heads to bring them good luck. “However, we didn’t think cracking eggs over customers’ heads would go down too well, so we decided to combine these colourful eggs with everyone’s favourite part of Easter, an egg hunt, but with a twist,” says Jackie Ginsberg, CEO of Cantina Laredo. The restaurant is also providing chocolate Easter eggs for Centrepoint, the charity providing housing and support for those staying at the local shelter over the holiday.
