Clive Watson’s Provisioners opens at Tower Bridge
Set in the The Dixon Hotel, this new South Bank restaurant follows in the footsteps of Blixen, Lorne and Riding House Café
London’s South Bank is becoming a hotspot for new hotels and the latest, The Dixon, which opened with a soft launch this month, hosts Provisioners – a new restaurant by Clive Watson, co-founder of Fitzrovia’s Riding House Café, Spitalfield’s Blixen and non-executive director of Victoria-based Lorne.
Head chef Lerrico Messina has devised a varied menu (starters from £6.50, mains from £13 and desserts from £6) that includes culurgiones (Sardinian dumplings) with pecorino and winter truffle; “secret smokehouse” haddock risotto with leeks and poached quail egg; and Shanghai master-stock duck pie, roast duck breast and duck-liver parfait. For dessert, diners can expect peanut-butter parfait with banana sponge and brown-butter ice cream, and Valrhona chocolate mousse with Maldon sea salt, caramel and a ginger snap.
The restaurant is complemented by The Courtroom Bar, set in the former Tower Bridge Magistrates Court, and bar manager Sushant Rana has worked with his team to create new cocktail offerings, including the low-alcohol Japan Spritz – a blend of plum wine, pomello and pink pepper tonic with shiso cress – and the Short, a sour with clove-infused calvados, Mandarine Napoléon, lemon, vanilla and orange bitters.
