Wilderness adventures at a luxury Icelandic lodge

Sea kayaking and dry-suit snorkeling are among the activities on offer at Deplar Farm

The word “remote” does not do justice to Deplar Farm on northern Iceland’s on Troll Peninsula. Situated amid a series of peaks that are 3,000ft above sea level, in an area that has some of the highest average snowfall on earth, the former sheep farm (now luxury retreat) will be the only comfort zone in sight as the adrenaline-fuelled Iceland Experience arrives on the island this September.

Created by Olympic swimming gold medallists Michael Klim (Australia) and Ryk Neethling (South Africa) alongside a team of strength and conditioning experts, nutritionists and wellness doctors (and with travel companies Eleven Experience and Chōsen), the seven-day, 10-guest-only adventure breaks (September 15-21, plus more dates in 2018; £12,183 for single occupancy; £10,475 for two people sharing, excluding flights) will combine full-on fitness training with explorations of mindfulness.

The full-board break includes food from local farms and fisheries that is designed to support intensive exercise as well as use sustainably sourced local ingredients.
