Trishna’s Not Your Average Curry Night

Quarterly nights celebrating Indian dishes inspired by different regions

London restaurateurs are getting some stiff competition from Sethi, Sethi and Sethi, the siblings behind Bubbledogs, Kitchen Table, Lyles, Hoppers, Bao and the Michelin-starred Gymkhana.

But it is at Trishna, their first restaurant – founded in 2008, awarded a Michelin star, and the jewel in the crown of their restaurant group – that the Sethis will be hosting a series of quarterly “Not Your Average Curry Nights”, an irreverent nod to the British love of a chicken tikka masala. Here they will introduce some of the most innovative modern Indian dishes inspired by different regions in the subcontinent, paired with matching wines (£120 per person).

The first NYACN will kick off on March 15 with dishes from Kerala, an area known for its heady spicy food. A five-course menu includes king prawn muringa curry and Travancore goat roast, as well an equally enticing vegetarian menu of malabar mushroom cakes, paneer pepper fry and eggplant muringa curry – complemented with champagne and wine parings by sommelier Sunaina Sethi.

On April 19 it will be off to Pondicherry, a city celebrated for its use of fish, seafood and coconut as well as the French influences absorbed during the city’s colonial history. The May 10 dinner will delve into Goa’s rich and varied seafood and vegetable dishes, and there is expected to be a riot of puris, bhajis, bhels and idlis from Mumbai on Tuesday September 20.
