Chopard’s lucky London glow
The jeweller showcases its Bafta haute joaillerie at The Dorchester
During the film-awards season, the first sweeping glance takes in the gowns. But then the eyes wander to the jewels that adorn the necks, ears, wrists and fingers of the actresses posing on the red carpet. The Baftas on Sunday night were no exception. A clutch of megawatt stars chose to sparkle in Chopard jewellery – Cate Blanchett, winner of the Best Actress award for Blue Jasmine, dazzled in a pendant from the Animal World collection that featured diamond doves (first picture, price on request). Created to celebrate the jeweller’s 150th anniversary, this menagerie of one-off pieces includes, somewhat surprisingly, a pig necklace, a pink-panther bracelet, a Dalmatian cuff and the doves, which turned out to be Blanchett’s lucky talisman.
Uma Thurman selected a necklace featuring 40 emeralds, 32 carats of cut diamonds, diamond stud earrings, a heart-shaped diamond bracelet and a ring – all from the Temptations collection. And Blue is the Warmest Colour’s Léa Seydoux, a nominee for the Rising Star award, wore a cascading pair of diamond earrings set in Fairmined gold, along with a diamond ring.
Those who want a close-up of these jewels and many other delectable star-quality items can visit Chopard’s first haute joaillerie boutique in the UK, Chopard at The Dorchester (second picture), which opened at the Dorchester Collection’s iconic London hotel in December. All the Bafta wonders not only went on display there yesterday, but are also available for purchase (all price on request). Featuring alongside them are the earrings worn by Cate Blanchett at the Golden Globes this year, chosen from the Green Carpet collection, Chopard’s first sustainable range of jewellery, which was launched at Cannes in 2013. Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s co-president, says of the collection: “It is not an easy journey, but it is the right one.”
The Blanchett Dove pendant is now a piece of cinema history. As for the woman who finds herself its next lucky recipient, who knows what good fortune it will bring her?
